Greenhouse is a pioneering mixed-use flagship development in Beeston, Leeds. Sum was the Employers Agent and Cost Manager on the scheme which received a Low Carbon Building Programme grant from the Energy Saving Trust. This multi-award winning low carbon scheme by local developer Citu, was a complex refurbishment of an existing 1930’s hostel with new build elements.
The 172 residential and office units benefit from ground source heating, solar thermal hot water, wind turbines, rain and grey water harvesting, super insulation, recycled material specifications, gym, deli and concierge service.
The significant design co-ordination challenges were: Code for Sustainable Homes specification, acoustic performance within existing buildings, disproportionate collapse steelwork, and suitability of ground conditions for boreholes.
