Irish National Heritage Park & Vykingar Village Project, Wexford

A Unique Experience Through Irish History

Located just outside Wexford Town in the cornerstone of Ireland’s Ancient East, the Irish National Heritage Park is a unique heritage experience in Ireland and Europe that brings to life over 9000 years of Irish history. Take a journey through Pre-Historic Ireland, Early Christian Ireland and the Age of Invasion across 40 acres of magical woodland, with spectacular views across the River Slaney estuary. Explore historic buildings and settlements to see how Ireland’s earliest settlers lived, worked and fought. Get involved in some family activities for an unforgettable Irish history experience. Forage like a pre-historic farmer,  meet the birds of prey, complete the Trials of Tuan and maybe stay overnight in a ringfort like it’s 500AD!

Wexford County Council, in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland, is committed to developing the county as a tourism destination of international significance that can match or exceed the performance of traditional destination points along the west coast.

It proposes a cluster of linked projects of significance at 3 distinct locations throughout the county (working title – WEXFORDIA) that will be promoted and marketed in a co-ordinated way to meet the requirements of the international visitor and to transform County Wexford and the wider South East region into an international tourism destination, with all the associated economic and social dividends.

The Irish National Heritage Park at Ferrycarrig, Wexford is one of these projects and is the subject of this appointment.

The aim of this project is to create, develop and incorporate a new experience ‘Vykingar – Beyond Legend’ into its overall visitor offering at the Irish National Heritage Park (INHP).  This will include creating a master plan for the further development of the INHP. The master plan will set out the future expansion and development of the INHP including the development and addition of the ‘Vykingar – Beyond Legend’ proposition into its visitor experiences and retail offerings.  It will guide the design, planning, procurement and construction of a new INHP.

The new INHP will deliver a world class visitor experience and high end retail offering that is capable of attracting significantly increasing visitor numbers. It will be strongly aligned with Fáilte Ireland’s Ireland Ancient East with particular focus on creating concepts, products and experiences to interest and attract them. It will be capable of generating significant numbers of international and domestic visitors and shall be designed to be sustainable with flexibility to adapt so that it can be meet the changing needs of the market.
